License of KDE - odz buffer

KDE3に関してはライセンスの見直しが行われ、kdelibs、kdecoreの
一部等Qtが利用されていないソースに関してはGPLを適用しない
方向に進んでいた...いつの間にか。

Qt が利用されていないソースに GPL を適用しない？いつの間にか？
以下、/usr/share/doc/kdelibs4c2a/copyright の抜粋。

All programs are either under the BSD, GPL or LGPL licenses. On Debian
systems, the complete text of the BSD, GPL and LGPL licenses can be found
in the /usr/share/common-licenses/BSD, /usr/share/common-licenses/GPL and
/usr/share/common-licenses/LGPL files.

ふむ、kdeui や kate まで LGPL なわけですが。Qt を使ってないんでしょうか。

% ldd /usr/bin/kate | grep libqt
        libqt-mt.so.3 => /usr/lib/libqt-mt.so.3 (0x00002b73cd10b000)

% ldd /usr/lib/libkdeui.so | grep libqt
        libqt-mt.so.3 => /usr/lib/libqt-mt.so.3 (0x00002b668a4ad000)

まぁ、そんなわけない。念のため両者ともソースを確認しましたが、普通に Qt を使用していました。

さて、実際いつから LGPL なんだろう。レポジトリ中の kdelibs/README を見てみる。

Licensing

The libraries themselves have been covered (since Saturday, June 21st, 1997)
by the GNU Library General Public License (LGPL). Any other programs (such
as the examples) are covered by the GNU General Public License (GPL). All
the gory details for the LGPL reside in COPYING.LIB, and for the GPL reside
in COPYING.

やぁ、1997年6月21日ということで、だいたい10年くらい前ですね。KDE 1.0 もまだリリースされていない頃です。
ついでなので KDE のサイトから

KDE supports and always has supported commercial uses of the desktop environment. All KDE core libraries are published under the LGPL.
KDE is open to commercial use.

Licensing:
The KDE libraries are licensed under the LGPL, to allow for the development of commercial applications for KDE. KDE applications are licensed under the GPL

それぞれ、適当な直訳。

KDE はデスクトップ環境の商用利用に対応しますし、これまでも対応してきました。
すべての KDE コアライブラリは LGPL のもとリリースされます。
KDE は商用利用に対して開いています。

ライセンス:
KDE ライブラリは商用アプリケーションを開発できるように LGPL でライセンスされます。
KDE アプリケーションは GPL でライセンスされます。

ということで、KDE が GPL だから商用 KDE アプリケーションが作れないというのは思い込みか何かの勘違いかと思われます。
